Safety, said straight.
RULE 1 Never direct-charge a battery
Always put a charge controller (ISDT or equivalent) between the Juicebox and any pack. The controller manages cell chemistry, balance and cutoff. The Juicebox just delivers power.
RULE 2 Never exceed 100W input
100W is the ceiling, not a target with headroom. A bigger source is fine (the Juicebox negotiates down) but never force more than 100W through it.
RULE 3 Never exceed the battery's charge rating
100W available does not mean 100W is safe for your pack. Check the max charge current printed on the battery and set your charger to that, or lower.
RULE 4 Never feed it raw solar
Panel voltage swings with every cloud and load change. Use a panel with regulated USB-C output, or put a solar charge controller in line. Raw panel leads, never.
FAQ
No, and this matters. The Juicebox is a power adapter, not a battery charger. It has no idea what chemistry, cell count or charge state your pack has. Always put a charge controller (ISDT or equivalent) between the Juicebox and the battery. Juicebox supplies the watts; the controller does the thinking.
An e-marked 5A USB-C cable for the full 100W. Ordinary cables are limited to 3A, which caps you at 60W from a 20V source. One field rule: if a cable ever gets hot, stop using it.
It's a USB-C cable with a small chip inside called an e-marker that tells the source it can safely carry up to 5A / 100W. Cables without one are capped at 3A (60W), which is why the full 100W needs an e-marked cable. Look for a 100W or 5A rating printed on the connector or packaging.
The Juicebox works with any charger. Smaller sources simply deliver less – an 18W phone brick still works, just at lower voltage and fewer watts. The catch is on the other end: many devices have a minimum input voltage, and won't turn on below it. Check what your gear needs, then make sure your charger can supply that voltage. The one exclusion: raw solar panel leads. See Safety.
Yes. The Juicebox speaks QC, FCP and AFC as well as USB-C PD/PPS, so a USB-A fast charger works through an A-to-C cable. Two limits to know: A-to-C cables are capped at 3A, and most USB-A chargers top out around 12V, so expect roughly 36W, not 100W. The full 100W needs a 20V PD source and an e-marked cable.
